Donald James Sorenson passed away Monday, July 13th, 2020 age 74 at his home in Vancouver, WA after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Don was born October 2, 1945 in Ashland, OR to Harvey and Mary Sorenson the third of six sons. He attended Ashland High School and Southern Oregon College. Don married Janet Morrison in 1966 while attending college in Ashland. They moved to Vancouver, WA after graduation in 1968.

Don taught mathematics for 30 years for Vancouver Schools. After retirement he taught at Mountain View and Firm Foundation Christian schools. He loved teaching 8th grade math and coaching middle school football and track.

He enjoyed many interests over the years including playing football, riding motorcycles, hunting, and church handyman. He supported his children’s school and sports activities. Don enjoyed cooler climates and took RV trips to Alaska, Canada, and even to the Arctic preferring the backroads and mountain passes. His favorite activity was working and camping at his forest acreage near Amboy.

Don was active in the Lutheran Brethren Church since becoming a Christian at Warm Beach, WA Bible Camp in 1977. He took his family to many church events in WA, OR and MN where he made lifelong friendships. He was an encourager to many pastors, friends, and students.

He is survived by his wife Janet Sorenson of 53 years, His daughter Katherine (Chad) McMurry of Vancouver, WA, and son John (Serena) of Spokane, grandchildren Keegan (Julie) McMurry of Monmouth, OR, Seamus McMurry of Vancouver, WA and Fia Sorenson of Spokane, WA, five brothers Harvey (Sandy) Sorenson of Watertown, TN, John (Juanita) Sorenson of Roseville, CA, Dennis (Regina) Sorenson of Sparks, NV, Dale (Wendy) Sorenson of Auburn, CA, David (Kay) Sorenson of Scappoose, OR, and many nieces and nephews and Christian friends across the country.

A Memorial Service was held at Memorial Lutheran Church, Vancouver, WA, Sunday, July 19, 2020.
