Dorothy Marie Crowell, 78, of Vancouver, WA passed away peacefully at home on the 5th of October, 2017 after a brave battle against Congestive Heart failure resulting from Fabry Disease.

Dorothy was born on the 18th of May 1939 to Doug and Mary (McGovern) Upton in Anaconda MT where she attended school graduating from Anaconda Central High School in 1957. She often said, “All I ever wanted to be is a Nurse” and so she was, graduating from Montana State College (now University) / St. Patrick’s School of Nursing in 1960.

That same year she met her future husband, William “Bill” and they married on the 5th of November 1960 in Anaconda. Employment took them to Coos Bay, OR, then Spokane, WA and finally to Vancouver in 1967. While raising two children, Dorothy continued in her 40-year nursing career at local hospitals; Recovery Room Nurse at Vancouver Memorial; Head Recovery Room Nurse at both St Joseph Community and Southwest Washington Medical Center (now Peace Health); and finally Quality Assurance Coordinator for SWMC from which she retired in 1997.

Dorothy had many life-long hobbies and interests; an avid reader of books, raising cats and cooking gourmet dinners were but three. She enjoyed cooking family meals and spending time with her family and close friends Kathy & Dennis Mattson and Gypsy & Joe Jolly. They all enjoyed shopping and the saying; “Shop until you Drop!” was their motto. As a parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church, she became a Eucharistic Minister bringing Communion to hospital patients as well as the parishioners at Mass.

She is survived by her husband, William Crowell; son Jeffrey Crowell, (Kimberly) of Vancouver WA; daughter Patricia Crowell of Napavine WA; sister Laura Stone, (Lester ) of Anaconda MT; grandchildren; Jennifer Mason, Michael Paige, Matthew Crowell and Madeline Crowell and great grandchild Shelley Mason.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11am on Saturday the 21st of October 2017 at St Joseph’s Catholic Church, 400 S Andresen Rd, Vancouver WA. 98661 with luncheon served in the parish hall following the ceremony. Interment will be at Evergreen Memorial Gardens after the luncheon.
