Obituary

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Geraldine (Jerri) Annette Alinger on Tuesday, May 19, 2020. She died in Vancouver, Washington, her last city of residence, quickly and unexpectedly.

Born July 15, 1944, in Enumclaw, Washington, Jerri was raised in Lakewood, then a suburb of Tacoma. Her parents, Alvin and Betty Brandon, and three siblings, Clara, Bob and Mary, completed the family unit. Jerri was the “big” sister, the oldest child, who led and loved the others.

After graduating from Clover Park High School in Lakewood, Jerri moved to Modesto, CA, to begin her college education. In 1965, she moved to Portland, Oregon, where she met and married the man she loved to the end of her life, Dennis Alinger. They raised 2 rambunctious boys, Don and Darrell, sharing their love for baseball, motorcycles, dogs, finding a good bargain and exploring new life adventures.

As she continued her pursuit of education, Jerri began her adult employment as a phlebotomist, gained a degree as a medical technician, and worked as a manager of several labs in the Portland area. She was a good student, skilled professional, and excellent leader. After nearly 30 years living in Portland, Dennis and Jerri moved across the Columbia River to reside in Vancouver following their retirements.

Jerri was known and loved most for her generous and kind spirit, thinking of others and their feelings. She cared deeply for her grandchildren Taylen, Landon, Riley and Aimie and was quite proud of them all. She frequently visited her parents during their last years with the trademark gifts of canned salmon and fudgy brownies. She cherished her two sons, Don and Darrell. And she loved her husband, Dennis, to her last breath.

Jerri has been preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Betty Brandon and her granddaughter, Aimie. She will be so missed by those who remain here on this earth. We love you, Jerri.
